How to Prepare for Your First Dance

By April 27, 2019February 1st, 2024New Students, Wedding

Did you know that the first dance is one of the most anticipated moments at any wedding? Not only is it the most anticipated by guests, it’s also one of the most feared moments for the couple! The reason for that…they are not prepared. Whether you want a very simple dance or a Dancing with the Stars inspired routine, dance lessons are a must if you want to feel comfortable out there.

Many couples assume that it only takes a couple of lessons to master their vision and end up putting off the first dance until last minute.  However, learning to dance is like learning a knew language, and even the most basic of dances can take some time. The key isn’t to just learn some steps, the key is to give yourselves enough time to fully master what you have learned so you can actually enjoy your first dance.

We always suggest preparing for your wedding dance as soon as possible.

If you start right away, even as soon as you get engaged, you can relax and enjoy your lessons. In fact, at JT Ballroom Dance Studio, many of our couples make a date-night out of their dance lessons because it gives them a chance to spend quality-time together and reconnect! ⠀

Don’t have a song picked out yet? Don’t let that stop you! You can start by learning some basic, fundamental dance steps…”wedding day survival skills”, we like to call it. It’s an opportunity to actually learn how to dance together to ANY song at your reception. This is a skill that will come in handy for the rest of your lives.

The closer you get to the wedding, the more hectic your schedules will become. When that time comes, you will be very happy that you’ve learned your dance and are ready to go! Now…we know not everyone will have the opportunity to start right away. JT Ballroom Dance Studio offers crash courses for those last minute couples. Even a few dance lessons before the wedding will help you both feel more relaxed and confident when you step out onto the dance floor for the first time as husband and wife.

Still not sure if you and your fiancé are the dance lesson type? We suggest taking advantage of JT Ballroom Dance Studio’s free lesson offer. First lesson is free for all wedding couples. It is a perfect opportunity to give it a try!
